MORE INFO:

Stirrup pants originated in the 19th Century as equestrian gear. They have been worn for skiing, exercise, and casual fashion ever since.
Origins
  • 19th century: Stirrup pants were first worn by horseback riders as jodhpurs. The straps under the foot held the pants in place in the rider's boots.
  • 1936: Stirrup pants were first worn for skiing at the Winter Olympics in Germany.
  • 1960s: Stirrup pants became a staple of ski wear for both men and women
  • 1990s: Stirrup pants were worn as part of streetwear.
  • 2016: Stirrup pants began to make a comeback, with Balenciaga and Marni showing stirrup pants in their collections.
