HISTORY:
*Often called the American Hermes
While France is known for Louis Vuitton and Italy is known for Prada, America is known for Mark Cross—a respected luxury brand dating back to 1845. Famous for luggage, handbags, and accessories, Mark Cross produced the first “it” bag dubbed the “Grace.” This Mark Cross handbag was popularized when Grace Kelly carried it onscreen in the 1954 film Rear Window.
Though American-designed, Mark Cross leather goods were originally constructed in Italy, giving them quality beyond comparison. Still going strong in the second century of this heritage label’s existence, the Mark Cross brand has reinvented itself once again, proving quality construction and innovative designs are timeless.
Mark W. Cross & Co. was established in Boston in 1845 by Henry W. Cross, who affectionately named the company after his only son. Cross founded the company based upon a single mission: to create the finest leather goods for the horse and buggy rider.
The brand grew to impressive heights, fast becoming the largest horse furnishing store in the world by the late 1800s.
Mark Cross soon became the ultimate retail paradise for those seeking luxury in the new world of travel. No American brand did leather goods or exotic skins like Mark Cross.
